Because it’s photos are repinned over and over again, it’s sends traffic to your site in a slow and steady turtle like stream rather than a sudden rabbit like burst that dies off in a day or so. Pinterest groups are a great way to establish yourself with a community of like minded people where multiple individuals are all contributing similar information to a single board. They are a powerful way to network and using them can actually double your overall blog traffic. How to Use Pinterest Groups to Double Your Blog Traffic
Check Your Statistics: Examine your current traffic from Pinterest (they’ve got stellar tools just for this purpose when you sign up for a free business account.) Figure out which posts are consistently producing traffic for you on Pinterest and which ones are falling short. Then… and listen in cause this is revolutionary… Give the People what they want! ♥ Emulate your best posts and spread them to the four corners of the internet! Pin them in a box, with some socks and eat all the darn ham you’d like while doing it!
Little Tip: If you need an easy way to track where your traffic is coming from, but don’t want to transition to a Pinterest for Business account, Google Analytics is also a great way to keep tabs on how your viewers are coming to your site.
Spend Time On Pinterest: I know, I know, I’m blowin’ your mind right now, but if you don’t spend some time on Pinterest, it will be much harder to know how to operate Pinterest Groups and optimize your efficiency. Look at the top groups in your niche and see what type of posts they make. What type of content do they share? What sort of comments they are leaving for each other? How many people are participating? A little research will show you who is successful, and what strategies they used to get there. Spend time watching them to make sure you are keeping pace on new trends with your peers now, so you can establish your own board and rock it like a boss later.
Little Tip: For the best results, look not only for the titans in your industry that everyone knows, but also watch for smaller, up and coming accounts and groups to see who is growing.
Settle On A Style Within The Group: You obviously have a topic for your board, (i.e. home decor, recipes, pets, clothing…) but why not narrow it down a little? There are thousands of group boards dedicated to pinning home decor, but how many are dedicated to pinning only gold & white home decor, or only kids home decor, or even only Mid-Century Modern home decor. If you get specific with your pinning requirements, but leave enough room for the groups members to interpret what they’d like to pin, you get a much more active audience with a much more curated look.
Little Tip: Don’t narrow your style down to specifically (i.e. pink dog houses) or your contributors will run out of things to pin and eventually leave your board.
Use PinGroupie: If you’re looking to join a pre-existing group then you’ll need to start searching for ones that already exist within your interests. A free tool that hits this out of the park is PinGroupie. It’s specifically built to search for Pinterest Groups based on a number of metrics to allow you to get into the right groups and start growing and contributing quickly. Joining a pre-existing group can be just as beneficial as starting your own, and talking to long running members of the group can provide valuable insight on how they gained their success.
Little Tip: Don’t be afraid to join a smaller group rather than a massive one. If there are only a few people in the group then your posts aren’t as likely to get lost in the mass of posts, which will let you stand out. A small core group is also a great way to build up some friendships in the community.
Stay Active On Group Boards: Once you have started or joined a group board it is very important that you remain active on the board, otherwise it is easy for your profile to wash into the background with the stronger personalities rising to the forefront. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to be posting content to the board around the clock, but you should be commenting, re-pinning, and posting as often as possible.
Little Tip: Keeping active on your personal boards is just as important as staying active on your group boards, but there is no reason you can’t repin from your personal boards to your group boards. Just try to make sure that some of the work you do on your personal boards isn’t listed on the group board to give those who have followed your profile something new to read that they couldn’t get simply by subscribing to all of your group boards. Oh, and for goodness sake PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, space it out! Don’t repin the same thing twice in a row…
Keep Monitoring: Don’t just sit back and wait for others to come to your group, actively look for and recruit new talent, and keep watching the trends followed by other groups. The key to becoming the big “it” group within your niche is to catch trends and up-and-coming new accounts before they become big, putting your group on the fore-front of innovation.
Little Tip: Scope out the cool people on Pinterest and Invite them to join your board while you comment and like their photos. It’s always flattering to get a compliment, so you are more likely to get noticed.
